Orca Computing

Precision Foam Engineering for Quantum Technology

Orca Computer required high-specification internal housing for their quantum computing hardware. The project called for the production of custom foam inserts based on precise design proofs, requiring both material expertise and exact dimensional accuracy to ensure a perfect fit for their delicate components.

Custom laser cut Plastazote foam insert

To meet the client's complex requirements, we utilised Plastazote foam, a high-performance material favoured for its purity and protective qualities. The production involved a multi-stage process: first, we laser-cut individual layers of form according to the client's vector designs. These layers were then meticulously heat-bonded together to create a seamless, multi-dimensional insert that matched the exact depth and geometry of the hardware.

Laser cutting allowed us to achieve intricate internal cutouts that traditional die-cutting methods could not replicate with such precision. As with all our technical clients, we have archived the specific design files and laser parameters to ensure identical results for their future manufacturing runs.
